Theo Walcott passed a medical with Everton on Wednesday afternoon before joining the Toffees in a £20m deal from Arsenal.

Southampton were strongly linked with a move for the former youngster as the Saints look to boost their firepower following a difficult run of form in the Premier League.

However, Mauricio Pellegrino’s side have missed out on the attacker, who signed a three-and-a-half-year deal with Everton on Wednesday.

It would be fair to say that the Southampton supporters are a very frustrated fanbase at the moment, and many have taken to social media to express their disappointment.

Walcott, 28, scored five times in 23 first-team appearances for Southampton before joining Arsenal, where he has managed 108 goals in just shy of 400 appearances.

Southampton have funds to spend this month following the £75m sale of Virgil van Dijk to Liverpool, but Walcott, who is valued at £18m by transfermarkt.co.uk, will not be returning to St Mary’s after pitching up on Merseyside.
